Motorola Hosts U.S. Department of Education Teacher-to-Teacher Workshop

Schaumburg, IL (PRWEB) July 13, 2007

Motorola yesterday opened its doors to more than 100 teachers from across the nation for a free two-day workshop focused on inspiring youth in grades K-12 to embrace science and math. The U.S. Department of Education Teacher Initiative training is based on peer-to-peer learning, sharing best practices and strategies for inspiring students and boosting student achievement in critical areas.

“We respect and admire today’s teachers, and we know they are the key to creating a brighter future for our country, not to mention a pipeline of future Motorola employees – kids that are passionate about science, who can think in new ways, and who get excited about inventing,” said Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola.

“We want to help the teachers connect how innovation impacts society. They will tour Motorola’s Innovation Center, which showcases innovation’s role in our success, and visit with Motorola employees who work in technology fields. Teachers will take home practical ideas for how to make math and science real to their students.”

The Department of Education’s Teacher Initiative recognizes teachers as the single most important factor in raising student achievement. The program will offer local educators a free opportunity to participate in high-quality professional development designed to provide classroom support, technical assistance, and the increased collaboration needed to ensure academic success for all students.

Since 2000, the Motorola Foundation has contributed more than $ 32 million in grants to a variety of programs that draw students closer to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
